JASON SUBHEAD

Straight Outta Scarborough! >>
Due to his status as one half of the legendary techno
groups Subhead and 2CB, as well as a dizzying array of
collaborations, remixes, and solo work, Jason Leach
now stands on a discography of well over 100 records
(yes, vinyl records). And before you Moby and Chemical
Brothers fans can say, "Well, I've never heard of
him," it's fitting to mention that he's gained his
reputation as the most compelling hardware act in
Europe by keeping it--that's right--underground.

"Shrugging off self-promotion and magazine coverage
adds to their anonymity while intense
live-performances have built devoted followings
worldwide for anyone seeking Art on the right angle:
Punk rock while pure Techno." --Tresor Berlin

If you've ever partied in a sweatbox basement, an
abandoned warehouse, or a Russian nuclear submarine,
and one of those mind-blowing, life-altering moments
occurs, when you're shocked that the human mind can
even conceive of the noise pounding through your body,
that the equipment exists to produce it, and more
shocked still to find yourself dancing harder than
ever, you've likely just bugged out to a Subhead
plate.

In this North American exclusive, Jason Leach arrives
for his West Coast debut with an excess weight limit
of gear and a hardware set written specially for the
event, to literally rock San Francisco into
techno-blivion.

PONGOID

Freetekno Ain't Free >>
Ian SPAZ is what most folks call him, knowing him as a
freetekno pioneer and charter member of the notorious
S.P.A.Z. soundsytem collective. He's released
underground plates and rocked the stacks of many a
teknival massive and countless renegades with both his
dj and live sets.

With a career that is truly international in scope
(and includes playing bass in a funk outfit under the
guise of his alter ego), Pongoid is always pushing for
that space on the dancefloor where you can say, 'this
is it--I'm free.' Liberation theology? This is
liberation TECHNOlogy. Autonomy is the operative word,
and this man takes it seriously, putting his politics
front-and-center in steadfast support of the right to
assemble.

His hardware sets are hallmarks of craftsmanship,
addressing the entire audio spectrum. Nobody's saying
you have to freak out and lose your mind; we're just
saying that if you want to, this guy's here to help.

EATS TAPES

Mutantes Sónicos >>
What, no laptop? Oh, that's right-- this is Eats
Tapes. Local heroes Marijke J & Gregory Z have been
rocking bay area venues for years with the insane
squelch and full-body beats coaxed from their gear.
Ironically (and typical for San Francisco... sigh),
they've earned their greatest acclaim on tour, blowing
minds across Europe and also winning fans by the
clutch on the merit of their studio releases on
Tigerbeat6 and Community Library. But Eats Tapes is,
properly, a LIVE experience.

Their shows comprise both audio and video, as they
arrive at gigs with suitcases full of vintage and
modern... MACHINES! They make them squeak. They make
them squawk. They make them burp, chortle, and talk.
They sequence live. They shuck and jive. Your feet
ain't movin? You ain't alive! They project pictures
onto screens. They are masters of their machines.

FOREST GREEN

Cute Thing With Fangs >>
What can be said about Forest Green? If you live in
San Francisco, she's long been your last, best hope of
hearing dope techno in anything approaching a
mainstream setting. Still, she keeps her chops sharp
by gigging at undergrounds and one-offs all over the
world. While you're just as likely to catch her paying
the bills with balls-out electro, breaks, or dubstep
sets, this lady's loving heart is tuned to deliver the
techno madness.

Tireless in her support of the rave as a venue for
personal and artistic expression, Forest has rightly
gained fame as a consummately professional DJ and live
performer, earning the respect not only of her
audience, but the promoters who work with her. There's
no telling whether she'll pull out vinyl, cd, or jam a
live set from her laptop, but there's a one hundred
percent chance of dancefloor twerkin'.

Honestly, there's too much to cover here. Check the
links...

MOSONIK

Old School Dropout >>
Mosonik has been raving since before the word 'raving'
was used to describe raving. During that time, he has
spent multiple fortunes supporting the artists,
labels, and manufacturers who make his vinyl addiction
possible. He's also managed to pick up some mixing
skills, and there's something wrong with his head.

Dedicated to the gnostic rave, Mo believes the
dancefloor to be a sacred space. Not the yoga and
incense kind of sacred that seems to predominate in
hippiedippy SF. Rather, the "I just hallucinated that
I was speaking with my dead grandmother and she told
me it would be all right as long as I don't stop
dancing and you know what I believed her and then she
lit a joint and smoked me out and now I think I should
call my mom and tell her I love her" kind of sacred.
Then again, you could just shake that ass. He thinks
that's sacred, too.
